When Donuts and Afilias came together to form Identity Digital, it marked the uniting of two
pioneering companies with a shared commitment to strengthening and expanding the internet. Among the visionary leaders who carried that mission forward is our Chief Strategy Officer, Ram Mohan, whose decades of work advancing DNS security, stability, and multilingual access have now earned him one of our industry’s highest honors: induction into the Internet Hall of Fame.
Ram has been a major figure in shaping internet policy and standards, having advanced DNS security and stability to make the internet a safer and more inclusive space for users worldwide. Through his leadership in various internet standards groups, he built the team that developed the global language representation standard for top-level domains, a cornerstone of the modern multilingual internet. His work in this area is recognized as foundational, and he is widely regarded as a major figure in making the internet more inclusive and accessible across languages and cultures.
Today, in recognition of all of his outstanding work, we are excited to share that Ram has been officially inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame.
The Internet Hall of Fame honors innovators and pioneers whose work has expanded the internet’s global reach and transformed how billions of people connect. In receiving this honor, Ram joins a distinguished group of innovators, technologists and pioneers whose legacies have shaped how billions of people connect and communicate.
This is one of the highest lifetime achievements in our industry, and it recognizes his invaluable contributions. To name just a few, Ram:
- Cofounded the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) that assesses threats and risks to the internet naming and address allocation services
- Served on the board of ICANN for many years to build a team that developed a global language representation standard for Root Zone Language Generation Rules (RZ-LGRs) for top-level domains
- Organized the Universal Acceptance Steering Group (USAG) to promote the adoption of all domain names and email addresses
- Cofounded the Coalition on Digital Impact (CODI), an initiative aimed at ensuring that every person can navigate the internet in their own language.
“When I began this journey, the internet was a different place, a frontier, wild and brimming with possibility. We were a small community of builders, united by the belief that connecting the world could change everything. Together, we proved that a shared vision can truly change the world,” Ram explained. “I am so deeply honored by this achievement and thank everyone who has helped me along my journey.”
It is an honor to have him on the Identity Digital team, and the greater online community is lucky to benefit from his visionary leadership. Please join me in congratulating Ram on this latest achievement!
